Out with the old, in with the new, and a glass of champagne to ease the transition. As the New Year approaches we all find ourselves in the mood for a celebration, and what better or more traditional way is there to mark this significant time than by downing the bubbly? Whether you prefer a prestige cuvée, blanc de noirs, blanc de blancs or a Rosé Champagne, here’s a pair of suggestions from the team at the Hotel de la Herse d’Or.
Two unique locations in which to enjoy Champagne
Call Me Bubbles is the name of an original and intimate location in the 18th arrondissement where the champagne flows freely. This specialist champagne bar and cellar was established in 2009 by Marc Cocquerelle, an expert and passionate advocate of the benefits of the bubbly who is happy to share his wide ranging knowledge with his customers. In a delightful retro atmosphere you can sample a vintage Dom Perignon, a Krug or a Rosé Valéry Robert. The most comprehensive champagne cellar in the capital also offers the opportunity to try some rarities.
If you wish to sip champagne while gazing down at the rooftops of Paris, however, then the Champagne Bar on the top floor of the Eiffel Tower is the location for you. Offering a unique view of the city and an extra special experience you’ll not soon forget, this small bar is open every day from noon until 10:00 pm.
However you choose to celebrate the advent of 2015, we wish you the very best for the holiday season.
A wonderful Festival of Fairground Magic
If you yearn for the enchanted landscapes of the carnivals and fairgrounds of the past, where curiosities and wonders abounded, then you should not miss Le Festival du Merveilleux. Running from December 26th to January 4th , this celebration of the magical and often dreamlike entertainment of the past takes place in the Pavillons du Bercy. There’s a museum dedicated to the arts of the fairground, a theatre of marvels and more. With live shows, carnival rides and games, and the new Magic Mirror ballroom dating from 1925, this is a unique festival guaranteed to beguile the entire family.
Experience the Christmas atmosphere of Montmartre
It became famous for its artistic and Bohemian atmosphere during the heady years of the Belle Epoque, but Montmartre is no less fascinating today. From the gleaming beauty of the Sacré Coeur Basilica and the Christmas market to be found in its vicinity from December 5th , to the party atmosphere pervading its legendary nightclubs, Montmartre still retains its magic. Ride the funicular railway up its picturesque flanks and wander back along winding streets that combine the taste of yesteryear with the flavours of today. It’s still the most romantic part of Paris, especially clad in its Christmas finery.
