Current photos exhibitions of Paris this season give you the chance to see the city through the lens of the one of the greatest photographers to take to the streets of Paris, and it's all a short walk from your personal home in Paris, Hotel de la Herse d'Or.
Current photos exhibitions of Paris give you a unique view
The exhibition is 'Brassaï: for the love of Paris' and it's on, free of charge, at the Paris City Hall until 8 March.
Brassaï was the Hungarian photographer whose photographs of the streets of Paris in the 1930s and 1940s bought him international renown. In this show you will see why, in the very city where he walked the streets with his camera at night. As a photographer, Brassaï was fascinated by the seedier side of the city. His black-and-white images of Paris are of moody, foggy boulevards, rainswept streets and drunken bars. But he also went to the other extreme: taking his camera to the parties of the rich and famous, to the ballet and to the opera. These aren't posed photographs, they are as near as you'll get to being there yourself. As Brassaï became famous, he became sought-after as a portrait photographer too, taking pictures of his artist friends such as Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse.
Any visitor to Paris will leave this show with an entirely new perspective on the city, as seen through the eyes of one of the world's greatest ever photographers.
