Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera Paris 2013 gives you a unique chance to see the radical work of this Mexican couple, twice married and always linked, displayed together in an exhibition that's highly recommended by Hôtel de la Herse d'Or, which is the perfect place to stay for this show.
Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera Paris 2013 will excite the senses
The show runs until January 13 in the beautiful setting of the Musée de l'Orangerie in the tranquil Tuileries Gardens.
Frieda Kahlo and Diego Rivera had a tempestuous relationship and their art is regarded as the most important ever to come out of Mexico, a country whose traditions infuse every piece. Frieda Kahlo's luminous self-portraits are magnetic, surrounded by symbols of her country as they stare out at you. They're as new today as when they were painted, true icons of the 20th century. Diego Rivera is best-known as a pioneer of the modern Mexican fresco tradition. This is a rare chance to see his large-scale painted accounts of the 1910 Mexican revolution, lent, like the Kahlo pieces, by the Dolores Olmedo Museum in Mexico. It's rare to see these works placed alongside each other, to see the contrasts and to understand how they're still influential in contemporary art today.
Just as compelling is the human story. Frieda Kahlo and Diego Rivera were married twice to each other, in a relationship marked by its arguments and violent disagreements. The artistic style of each influenced the other.
