For our July news of the Hotel de la Herse d'Or we have some exciting ideas for your next visit to Paris - whether your interest is in video games, the world's best antiques - or an old-fashioned funfair in the heart of the city.
Rides and antiques from the past and games from the future
Marcel Campion is a legend in Paris for his lengthy campaigns to bring old-style festivals to the heart of the city. He's the man behind the Tuileries Funfair, situated in one of Paris's great open spaces, the Tuileries Gardens on the banks of the Seine until August 24. The rise of the video game is one of the big cultural stories of our time, now rivaling the cinema in the hearts of young people. At Video Game Story, an exhibition at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles until September 7, that story is vividly told, complete with hundreds of machines to play on - and a glimpse into an exciting future. The past is the focus of the two-yearly Biennale des Antiquaires in the grandeur of the Grand Palais, where you will find hundreds of the finest antique dealers displaying their wares. Whatever your interest, we can think of no finer setting for this splendid show.
Rides old and new for young and old at Tuileries Funfair
Take a twirl on an authentic roundabout from the 1900s - or a high-adrenalin trip on one of the latest fairground rides, all in the beauty of the Tuileries Gardens at the Tuileries Funfair. There's even a free jazz concert to add to the experience. From bumper cars and ghost trains to the essential candyfloss, we can think of no better way to spend a summer's day. Parisians love this event - so why not join them for a really carefree time that all the family will enjoy?
Step into a virtual universe at Video Game Story show
The organisers of Video Game Story say it's the biggest show of its kind yet staged, set over three zones and taking you first into the past, then the latest games from the present - and onwards into the future of video gaming, with presentations from all over the world. If you've ever played one of these compelling games, you will want to see this landmark exhibition - and indeed here's so much to see that you will want to set aside an entire day so that you can experience the show to the full.
World's finest antiques are at Biennale des Antiquaires
Are you a fan of art deco? Or something much older? Perhaps a piece from the 1960s is what you desire? Whatever it is, we guarantee that you will find something you love at the Biennale des Antiquaires, set under the beautiful domes of the Grand Palais in the very heart of the city. Perhaps you will just join the collectors in browsing the stalls - or maybe you will find something that you have to take home with you as a unique momento of your visit to Paris. The organisers always make an effort to showcase the building as well as what's on sale, so you are in for a real treat.
