Here is latest news of the Hotel de la Herse d'Or, a cosy and welcoming establishment located in the heart of the Marais, and the ideal place from which to discover Paris and its treasures. The season of mist and mellow fruitfulness is well and truly upon us now, and certainly when it comes to the events scene in Paris, things could scarcely be more fruitful! There’s always something of interest to do here, and we would like to advise you regarding some of the best.
Visual Art, the Vintner’s Art, and Very Controversial Art
Photography, wine and art are three subjects often associated in the popular imagination with the city of Paris, so these are the areas we will be inviting you to explore this month. This November three major photography events in Paris overlap, giving you a chance to visit all three in the same week. Each is differently themed but all are of the highest standard and whether you are a professional photographer or a keen hobbyist you will find plenty to enjoy. Quickly becoming the major French wine event, Le Grand Tasting returns once more in November and offers viticulture excellence for all attendees. Finally, if you are a fan of the contemporary art scene you will probably have heard of Jeff Koons. The artist’s first major retrospective offers you the opportunity to discover what all the fuss is about. Outrageous, astounding and thought-provoking, it’s an event you won’t forget!
So let’s take a look at November’s offerings in greater detail.
Explore the world of Photography in Paris this November
The world of photography comes into focus in Paris in mid November with three major trade shows devoted to various aspects of this medium. The artistic side of photography comes under the lens at Paris Photo, November 13th to 16th at the Grand Palais. The more technical side of photography, with an emphasis on hardware and software, is the theme of the Salon de la Photo, November 13th to 17th at the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre. Finally, if you are a collector of photographs, then click the shutter on the Carrousel du Louvre where, from November 14th to 16th, you can enjoy Fotofever Paris.
Wine Lovers must not miss the Grand Tasting 2014
If you want to enjoy a wine tasting event that is charmingly informal and relaxed, yet stringent in its high standards and offering an educational perspective, then Le Grand Tasting is the one for you. Since 2006 the wine experts Michael Bettane and Thierry Desseauve have presented this annual show at the Carrousel du Louvre and it has grown into a hugely popular and eagerly anticipated event. Offering Master Classes and other chances to learn from wine experts, this show takes place on November 28th and 29th. Revisit old favourites and discover something new.
The first major Jeff Koons retrospective comes to Paris
Pop Art, high art or kitsch? The sculptures and paintings of the American artist Jeff Koons have been acclaimed as works of genius in some quarters and as cynical exploitation in others. What is certain is that the work exerts its own strange fascination. An upcoming exhibition at the Pompidou Centre offers the first major retrospective of this controversial figure of the art world. From November 26th to April 27th you can judge for yourself the artistic validity of creations that are eagerly collected on an international scale. The exhibition covers the artist’s creativity from 1978 to today via around 150 pieces of work.
