The Museum of the History of Paris, more commonly known as the Carnavalet Museum is a museum dedicated to the history of Paris from the origins of the city today. It is located in the Marais, at 23, Rue de Sevigne in Paris, in the third quarter, it has unparalleled collections: memories of the French Revolution, paintings, sculptures, furniture and objets d’art. It is managed since 1993 by Jean-Marc Leri.

The museum is organized into two buildings: the former Hotel Carnavalet and the former Le Peletier de Saint-Fargeau (since 1989). Which are separated by the lycée Victor Hugo, the two buildings are connected by a gallery on the first floor.

Hotel Carnavalet:

It was built in the Renaissance between 1548 and 1560 by Pierre Lescot Ligneris for Jacques, president of the Parliament of Paris. Inspired Castle Écouen, its schema quadrilateral « between court and garden » was an architectural novelty, and would be a model for many other hotels. The statues that adorn it are masterpieces due to Jean Goujon and his workshop.

Hotel Le Peletier de Saint-Fargeau

This hotel is a more sober style and was built by the architect Pierre Bullet in the 1690s. It has a unique architectural element with its grand staircase, whose lavish support ramp cast iron, cast and chiselled and not wrought iron, is a technical feat not repeated before the nineteenth century.
